Just for laughs: Jimeoin will wrap up his latest tour with six shows in the Hunter, starting at Wests New Lambton on November 17.
JIMEOIN is on a roll.
Armed with his cheeky smile, trademark witand expressive eyebrows, the Melbourne-based Irish comic is heading to the Hunter for a handful of shows, starting this weekend, and there is perhaps no better time to see him.
The Hunter gigs will bookend Jimeoin’sRenonsense Man tour, which is full of his observations about everydayabsurdities.
Rather than becoming fatigued by the same old gags after a long run of shows, he says that is when the magic happens –he becomes “fluent,” and when that happens, everyone wins.
“That’s when I really enjoy it,” he says. “If I haven’t done a gig for a month or so, I can find that quite difficult.
“When the room is full, and you’ve got a roll-on effect and people laughing, that’s hard to beat.
“But it’s easy for me –it’s not like I’m feeding lines to anyone, or likeI’m in a band and you have to do all the hits.I can do whatever I want. You geton a roll, and everything just flows.
“I find it the most exhilarating part of the day.”
Jimeoin has spent the best part of 30 years making ns laugh.
But when he needs a laugh, he tends to turn to “trivial” videos of people falling over. Everyday slapstick.
“It’s not sophisticated in the slightest, just because I’m a comedian,” he said.
“In everyday life I get loads of laughs. I find it hard to watch other comics, I find it a wee bit repetitive, and I’m too cynical. And I hate it when somebody is really good too, I’m sitting there going, ‘Ohhh, you bastard.’
“My comedy is certainly not based on politics or social commentary. You’re none the wiser at the end of it all. None the wiser.”
But sometimes, he’ll turn to social media for entertainment, althoughhe tends to go into a trance-like state.
“I get hypnotised with watching stuff on Facebook.I feel a bit dirty at the end of it all,” he laughs.
Jimeoin performs at Wests New Lambton on November 17, Nelson Bay Diggers on November 18, and Belmont 16s on November 25. He has gigs at Cessnock Leagues and Doyalson RSL on December 1 and 2 respectively.
